English as a Second Language (ESL)

The ESL (English as a Second Language) program is established to provide students with the vocabulary and grammatical structures needed for both school performance, professional/work, and everyday living. The ESL teacher develops language acquisition and cognitive academic language skills using sound instructional techniques. The ESL program provides the English Language Learner (ELL) the opportunity to grasp the academic, social, and cultural aspects of the English language through the teaching of reading, writing, spelling, and listening.

ESL BASIC is for students who want to learn the fundamentals of English. Strategies and skills include:
• Grammar
• Reading and textbook exercises
• Interactive activities
• Conversation

ESL INTERMEDIATE is for students who have English fundamentals and want to continue to increase their English skills. Strategies and skills include:
• Listening and understanding
• Increasing vocabulary
• Improving grammar and reading

ESL ADVANCED is for students looking to continue to improve their English language skills through:
• Small group conversation
• Practicing pronunciation
• Improving grammar, writing, and reading

ESL CONVERSATION is for Intermediate/Advanced level students that score level 3 or higher on placement test.
